ADHOC Events
With a normal programming conference, you listen to some people talk, take a couple of classes, try out some new software, and do the normal conference things. During the evening, you go out to dinner, maybe see what the nightlife of the town has to offer, and visit with some friends who live in the area. ADHOC is a little different, though. Well, ADHOC is a lot different.
First of all, we know programmers are nocturnal creatures, so the zoologists tell us, and we cater to those instincts. The first keynote kicks off at Midnight, with a wide awake audience full of - conference supplied - pizza and caffeine. There is also a keynote at midnight on the second night.
Second, there's the Showcase. From the moment you arrive, you're invited to start programming. Yes, that's right, a programming conference where you actually program. Crazy, we know, but stick with us. You're encouraged to create a piece of software or hardware that shows us just how clever and talented you are. You have roughly 2 days to get it working, because scores of your closest co-conferencees will be showing you how clever they are. Competition for the coveted Grand Prize is very stiff, but don't worry. Part of the conference experience is sharing your expertise in exchange for theirs. Sure, the Grand Prize may not make you rich, but it'll demonstrate the respect that hundreds of very clever and talented people have for your cleverness and talent.
After that, there's the little things, like the pizza parties, the ice cream social, and the Really Bad Science Fiction Movie That Opened That Weekend, to be followed by Mocking the Really Bad Science Fiction Movie That Opened That Weekend, The Showcase Awards banquet, and more.
Oh, we almost forgot to tell you about one of the most important parts! There is also a full schedule of regular technical sessions, case studies, code clinics, and classes to hone your programming skills.
Sleep? Well, not much! But we promise you'll be so involved, you won't miss it.
